Removable cartridge disks are used for two primary purposes. One is for backup of online SCSI disk drives. Another important use is to store, or “Archive”, files so that they may be removed from the hard drive in order to make room for new files. In order to prevent data loss, all data should be stored in at least 2 or 3 places. Cartridges used to archive files then need to be duplicated in order to protect the many Megabytes of data that may be stored on them. Currently, this process is almost impossible without 2 separate disk drives.
DiskDup Pro has been designed to create complete sector by sector copies of a cartridge in the same way that it duplicates floppies. When a “Master” cartridge is inserted, DiskDup Pro notes the size of the cartridge in order to determine the number of swaps necessary to complete the copy. A 100 Megabyte cartridge, for example, would require 4 swaps if there were 5 Megabytes of internal RAM plus 20 Megabytes of free disk space.
DiskDup Pro is based on the very popular shareware program DiskDup+. DiskDup Pro, however, is not distributed shareware.
